The company is a fast-growing global NGO with an international portfolio of work in the conservation and development of wetlands. They inspire, mobilize and bring together communities on the ground with decisionmakers to safeguard and restore swamplands for people and nature. With their efforts they promote the importance of swamplands and their biodiversity, while also making aware of the threat, loss and damage of these areas. Their vision is a world where swamplands are treasured and nurtured for their beauty, the life they support and the resources they provide. Do you want to help them reach that goal?
You will be stationed at the global office, within the communications department. This department consists of 1 line manager, 3 communication and advocacy officers and two communications officers (one of which will be fulfilled by this vacancy). The main language of communication is English and Dutch.


What will you do?
You want to be the expert who specializes in communicating the mission of this NGO. You can identify opportunities to connect news of globally significant issues to the work and expertise of the NGO, bringing it into the spotlight. You will shape and create stories that position the fieldwork of the NGO within the international agendas of biodiversity, resilience, adaption, mitigation food and water security.
You will be responsible for the global media and content strategy of the NGO and make sure all outings are in alignment. Other tasks you look forward doing are editorial functioning and global media relations, as well as managing communications for a number of specified projects. The job offers a opportunity for development to line-manage in the future.
Content development:
You will oversee website content curation, including modes of working between thematic areas and between global and local offices. Develop and maintain an editorial calendar and framework. Guide, advise and help edit content from our different regional offices. Develop social media channels and internal and external newsletters. Update and maintain corporate website content including copywriting and imagery. Contribute to institutional projects and global campaigns with content

Media monitoring and developing op-ed opportunities for senior experts within the organization. Organizing media outreach and media engagement days. Providing talking points and other materials as needed for senior staff. Capacity building on media for colleagues

Project communications:
Developing communications plans with the project team, advocacy leads and partners. Act as the communications focal point for project partnerships. Develop informational and promotional written, visual and digital communications materials to support advocacy, fundraising, reporting and external relations management for various audiences

Functie eisen

Who are you?
  • You have a track record of high quality articles, stories or cases, website content, reports or news items
  • You have at least 5 years of experience in the field of communications
  • You have a relevant degree e.g. international development, international relations, communications, geography or environmental science
  • Your English is fluent
  • You have knowledge of WordPress
  • You have an international view, proactive and strategic
  • You must be eligible to work in the Netherlands
Bonus competencies:
  • Working proficiency in additional languages, especially French, Spanish and Dutch are in your advantage;
  • Journalistic experience;
  • Developing and implementing content and/or media strategies for environmental/humanitarian NGO’s;
  • Able to coach colleagues on media relations

Ons aanbod

What we offer:
The job can be fulfilled for 32 or 36 hours per week (36 hours per week is a full-time position). The salary scale is between gross € 3.000 and € 3.500 based on a fulltime contract, with on top a travel allowance. The duration of the first contract will be a year, with the intention to extend if both parties are satisfied. The global office from which you will work is located in Ede. The start date is as soon as possible.
